As the plants began to come in, there became a dire need to
obtain plant containers for potting up plants. A press release
requesting donations of containers to the Center was a huge
success! Due to the overwhelming response from the community, the Center has recycled over 3000 containers, not only to the Center, but back into local organizations and businesses as well. As a result of stumbling across the need to find homes
for used plant containers other than the landfill, the Center has
designated itself as the "Drop Off Site for Recycling Used Plant
Containers." |
| In addition to the above mentioned people, thanks goes to Ace Hardware, Sierra Vista and the Cochise County Master Gardeners for helping build and care for the Plant Sciences Center. |

Reusing native plants in local landscapes helps Sierra Vista's water conservation efforts. Over 300 salvaged plants were replanted on Buffalo Soldier Trail. These native plants, once established, exist on rainfall and the city will save 3,088,800 gallons of water annually. |
| Arizona has many rare and unusual native plants.
Many people desire to use these "wonders of nature" in their
landscape because of their great beauty and drought-tolerance. Without a system to protect Arizona's native plants they would be in jeopardy of extinction. If you are clearing land there may be protected plants on it. Please contact the Plant Sciences Center for advise and assistance at (520) 458-8278 ext 141 or email us at psc@ag.arizona.edu |
